Wat gebeurt er als een klas de saaie sommen mag vervangen door door rekenlessen die met hun eigen leven te maken hebben? 

Groep zeven van de Rover Hoepsika-school komt in opstand tegen hun saaie rekenboek. De klas sluit een contract met hun juf en meester: dit jaar gaan ze rekenen met vragen die belangrijk zijn voor hun leven. Iedereen één vraag. Elke week één vraag. Die nieuwe rekenlessen zullen alles veranderen.

Samen met Ionica Smeets en Floor de Goede mocht ik dit boek bedenken dat anders is als alle andere rekenboeken: ik schreef de 22 korte verhalen van de 22 kinderen, die steeds uitmonden in een rekenvraag die er wél toe doet, zoals bijvoorbeeld: hoe word ik rijk? Hoe kan ik winnen bij alle spelletjes? Kun je in bad van alle tranen die je in leven huilt? Ionica schreef vervolgens de rekenuitleg die bij al die vragen hoort, en Floor tekende alles zeer vrolijk en zeer ruim. In kleur! De vormgeving is van Roald Triebels.

In 2020 is het vijf jaar geleden dat ik een van de oprichters mocht zijn van www.eurostory.nl, een online magazine dat literatuur, verhalen en het Eurovisie Songfestival combineert. Bovendien won Nederland in 2019 met Duncan Laurence, waardoor het festival in Rotterdam - de stad waar ik woon - wordt georganiseerd (met een jaartje vertraging vanwege de Coronoacrisis).

Die gegevens brachten een vraag voort: een naslagwerk-achtig boek over het Eurovisie Songfestival. Samen met mijn Eurostory-collega's Jelmer Soes en Dave Boomkens schreef ik een encyclopedie, een lekker dik boek waarin alle jaren, alle liedjes en alle verhalen terug te vinden zijn.
Per editie (het festival is volgend jaar 65 jaar oud!) lees je een stuk over de winnaar, een stuk over de Nederlandse inzending, een stuk over 'de grappigste zin' die dat jaar gezongen werd, een lijstje met alle namen en punten, aangevuld met de bijzonderste verhalen die er over dat jaar te vertellen zijn. Een echt blader- en struinboek, met veel prachtige foto's, die je nog niet vaak zag.
En een voorwoord van Cornald Maas!

Het boek richt zich op kinderen én volwassenen, werd uitgegeven door Querido, het omslag is van Roald Triebels.

Al jaren ben ik bevriend met oud-schaatser Beorn Nijenhuis. Zijn persoonlijke schaatsverhaal - van een jongetje dat opgroeide in Canada tot aan Nederlandse atleet die op de Olympische Spelen stond - is zo sprookjesachtig dat er een kinderboek van moest komen. Sanne te Loo maakte er een prachtig geheel van, iets tussen leesboek en prentenboek in. We zien steeds de kleine Beorn, die in de winter op het meer achter zijn huis trainde en trainde, terwijl de dieren toekeken, en we zien hoezeer in dat jongetje al de latere volwassen sporter zat (en andersom). Net als Stem op de okapi zit dit boek ook tussen de fictie en non-fictie in. De mooie vormgeving is van Maarten Deckers.

For years it has been my favourite animal: the okapi. This animal that is shy and majestic at the same time, that was discovered only 100 years ago (in Congo), and that bears zebrastripes as well as horns - since it's the only actual familymember of the giraffe.
In this fullcolour book, that illustrator Martijn van der Linden and me have been working on for years, we present 88 reasons to take the okapi as your new preferred animal. The book has nine chapters, and each chapter is different. In the first one we describe the okapi from head to toe, in another one we follow an okapi-zookeeper for some (dramatic) years, there are chapters with just okapi-illustrations, there is one with 4 okapi-poems, there is the okapi museum, in which we collect okapi-pictures (made by many leading illustrators, especially for this book).
It's a book full of passion, it's a book that provides you with everything that there is to know about the okapi, it's funny and light, it's serious and informative, we hope we have convinced you at the end to keep an eye on the shy and majestic animals ánd people around us...

For the second season in a row I write the official Ajax Yearbook for Children. I look back to the season that was and look forward to the season that is coming. For this edition player Viktor Fischer wrote the preface. I interviewed many others, like for instance Davy Klaassen, Joël Veltman, Ricardo Kishna, Jaïro Riedewald, Lasse Schöne, Jasper Cillessen and Daphne Koster.
There are portraits of all the other players, there are lists and reviews, there is an interview with the assistent-trainer and with the video-analizer. The numerous fullcolour pictures are by Ajax photographer Louis van de Vuurst.

I started writing this non-fiction book about bullying as a book for young adults, but gradually it became a book for adults, and so publishing house Athenaeum was so kind to issue it. For the book I met male model Julian van Dalen. He has a huge career in international fashion-modelling, but was bullied in school for as long as he can remember. The first part of the book is a collection of his memories. In the second part he was so generous to let me speak to all of those who had something to do with these episodes: his brother, his teachers, his friends and... the bullies themselves. Their interviews give a deeper insight on how these problems could come about and how they were dealt with. The book closes with an essay that Julian and I wrote together.

In this non-fictionbook about the most wellknown footballclub of Holland, Ajax, I tried to answer all the question an Ajax-fan could have about the club. I got access to the players and staff for almost two years, interviewed many of them, wrote about the history of the club and about day-to-day behind-the-screen routines. Because of the success of the book we published an update in 2011, and then again, from 2013 on I started making Ajax Yearbooks (one every year, Official Ajax Product). - Speciale 'ambassadeurs' van het boek waren Ajacieden Siem de Jong en Gregory van der Wiel. Hen mocht ik diverse keren interviewen, en ze namen ook deel aan de officiële presentatie van het boek in de ArenA.
- Elf jonge Ajax-fans hielpen mee om vragen te bedenken.
